ASRock to release a P67-based motherboard for LGA 1156 processors

Intel's 6 series chipsets have obviously been made for the new, 32nm LGA 1155 (codename Sandy Bridge) processors, but that hasn't stopped ASRock from playing Dr. Frankenstein a bit and built around the P67 a motherboard supporting currently-available LGA 1156 CPUs.

Named P67 Transformer, ASRock's LGA 1156-ready board offers the advantage of having a PCI Express 2.0 connection (the P55 is limited to PCIe 1.1) for I/Os like the SATA and USB ports. This should translate in higher speeds over SATA 6.0 Gbps and USB 3.0 even when using multiple drives simultaneously.

The P67 Transformer packs four DDR3 memory slots, two SATA 6.0 Gbps and four SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, a PCI-Express x16 slot, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 connectors, 7.1 channel audio and a debug LED. According to its maker this board will become available next month.

Asus P8P67 WS Revolution motherboard slides into focus

Asus' WS (workstation) motherboard line will be getting an update early next year as a model based on the Intel P67 chipset is currently being finished up. The board in question is called P8P67 WS Revolution and, of course, it supports the incoming LGA1155 Sandy Bridge processors.

Asus' motherboard features a 16+2 digital power phase design and an EPU that ensure up to a 92% power efficiency, an Nvidia NF200 bridge chip enabling 3-way SLI, four PCI-Express x16 slots, four SATA 6.0 Gbps and four SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, support for DDR3-2200+ memory (dual-channel), two USB 3.0 connectors, 7.1 channel audio, a passive cooling solution, and will be bundled with a diagnostics card.

No word on pricing yet, for that we'll probably have to wait for 2011.

Fatal1ty Gaming Gear Motherboards Coming Out Soon

It's been a number of years since we have seen ABIT Fatal1ty branded motherboards around, but it looks like some will be coming out soon by a new manufacturer. Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel has posted up comments about how is in in Taiwan right now checking out his upcoming motherboards for his product line. He hasn't mentioned any spcific details on it, but from the picture he posted it looks like the board is being made by ASUS and that the first one will be based on the upcoming P67 chipset for Sandy Bridge processors.

ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Professional gaming motherboad unboxed

Exposed only yesterday, the upcoming Fatal1ty P67 Professional motherboard from ASRock and pro-gamer Johnathan 'Fatal1ty' Wendel has went through an unboxing session and yes, the resulting photos have all been posted online for our enjoyment.

The new Fatal1ty-based board comes in a flashy reddish packaging, supports Intel LGA1155 processors, and features 16+2 CPU power phases, a digital PWM design, gold caps, four DDR3-2133 memory slots, UEFI to replace the aging BIOS, a PLX bridge chip, and three PCI-Express x16 slots.

ASRock's offering also includes a 'Fatal1ty' USB port enabling gamers to use their mouse at a 500 MHz rate, six SATA 6.0 Gbps and four SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.0 connectors, one FireWire port, eSATA, 7.1 channel audio, a debug LED, and Power, Reset, plus Clear CMOS buttons. The last picture shows the bundled front panel which has two USB 3.0 ports and supports one 2.5-inch drive.

The Fatal1ty P67 Professional is expected to become (officially) available in about a month, and will cost about $250.

Nvidia confirms SLI support for Intel LGA1155 motherboards

In case you weren't sure, Nvidia today announced that it has licensed its multi-GPU technology (SLI) to multiple partners (Intel, Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA) which will implement it on their upcoming P67-based motherboards supporting LGA1155 Sandy Bridge processors.

"The combined processing prowess of Sandy Bridge and Nvidia SLI technology will provide consumers with the building blocks for the ultimate gaming PC platform," said Joel Christensen, General Manager of Intel Client Board Division at Intel Corporation. "Both Nvidia and Intel continue to share a combined passion for furthering the PC as the definitive platform for gaming, and this combination will surely be attractive to anyone building or purchasing a brand new PC in 2011."

Most upcoming P67 boards will have 2-way SLI support while a small number, the ones equipped with one nForce 200 chip, will provide 3-way SLI capabilities.

Gigabyte LGA1155 motherboards make their way into Taiwanese shops

We're now less than a month away from the official launch of the first Sandy Bridge processors and Tier-1 manufacturer Gigabyte has already begun shipping some motherboards that support the new chips.

The picture below was taken in a Taiwanese shop and shows that a few H67M-D2 and H67MA-UD2H boards have reach their stores and will most likely sell before the the January release of the new Intel platform. Of course, even if you get one of these motherboards there's still the problem of finding/buying a Sandy Bridge CPU, but we're thinking those won't be kept under wraps until next year either.
